A balanced dossier · 2021–2026

The Catholic Church

One institution, two readings of the same years: one hundred significant accomplishments and one hundred drivers of dissent.

Evidence, not verdict

Yin &
Yang

Light does not erase shadow. Shadow does not negate light. Some moments belong to both.

How to read this record

A mirrored chronology, not a scorecard.

The Light list ranks positive acts by scale, historical significance, and newsworthiness. The Shadow list ranks events by their potential to cause dissent or division inside the Church.

The rankings answer different questions. They are placed together to expose tensions, continuities, and moments that can be read in more than one way.

Methodology

What this dossier can—and cannot—say

“Positive” means significant to the Church’s stated mission: evangelization, charity, peace, unity, accountability, and human dignity. It does not mean universally praised or finally successful.

Source standard

Both research runs used web search on September 30, 2026. Most sources were checked through search-index text rather than full live-page reads. Dates and figures are presented as reported; crowd and membership figures are estimates attributed to their sources, not audited counts.

Coverage

The record is global but leans toward English-, French-, Italian-, and Spanish-language reporting. It emphasizes papal and Vatican-level actions; local achievements are not exhaustive. Outcomes still unfolding at the cutoff are described without claiming final results.

Structural discrepancy

The dissent report’s published topic totals add to 104 despite one topic assigned to each of 100 rows. This page uses the row-by-row recount: SYN 26, ABUSE 15, POL 13, AUTH 12, LGBTQ 10, WOM 9, LIT 8, DOC 7.

Shared codes, different definitions

The same eight codes and colors are used on both sides for comparison. Their meanings are not identical: for example, AUTH denotes papal authority and obedience on the Shadow side, but governance, appointments, and Church life on the Light side. The legend states both meanings.

Evidence boundaries

  • No post-2021 formal Church discipline of clergy for Christian-nationalist or New Apostolic Reformation-adjacent activity was verified.
  • The phrase “Douglas agent groups” in commissioning notes remains an unresolved garble and is not treated as a finding.
  • The documented disciplinary asymmetry is not evidence of a coordinated purge.
  • The “18% in 2024 / 9% in 2025” dissenter-share idea is story framing, not verified demographic data.
  • Cross-listed events are marked and linked because one event can be both a milestone and a source of dissent.
